Small lawn, under 30m²

From$55

Courtyards and small yards

Townhouse strips, courtyards and small front lawns. Competitive pricing in all areas of Sydney. Get in touch for a hassle-free quote.

Medium lawn, under 70m²

From$75

Standard front and back

The usual suburban block, and our most common job by a wide margin. Pricing and quality of work are top of the range across Sydney and surrounds.

Large lawn, under 120m²

From$110

Bigger blocks

We have the equipment and the know-how for larger lawns, which keeps them cost-efficient and affordable. Get in touch if you're after a quote.

Bigger than 120m²? We run ride-on mowing and acreage lawn mowing for properties that need it. Regular maintenance customers pay less than one-off bookings, so ask when you call. See also what lawn mowing costs in Sydney.

Every visit

What's included in a mow

No add-ons or surprises on the invoice. This is the standard job at every price bracket.

  • Mow Cut at the right height for your grass type and the season, never taking more than a third of the leaf in one pass.
  • Edge Line trimmer along paths, driveways, fence lines and garden beds so the lawn has a defined edge.
  • Blow down Paths, driveway and entertaining areas blown clean before we leave. A mow that leaves clippings on the concrete isn't finished.
  • Clippings removed Caught and taken away, then separated and recycled rather than sent to landfill. Ask if you'd prefer them mulched back in.

Sydney lawn mowing services monthly update

Tristan Kavanagh

We're through the coldest part of winter here in Sydney and growth has slowed right down. Most lawns are on a four to six week cycle at the moment, and we're only taking the top off to neaten them up rather than cutting back hard.

Keeping a bit of length through winter is what stops weeds getting a foothold. Buffalo in particular nearly stops growing this time of year and gets overwhelmed easily. If yours is already patchy with weed, a suitable spray before the next cut works far better than mowing it flat.

It's also the right window for hedge and structural pruning while plants are dormant, and a good time to plan a spring feed. If you want mowing and pruning done in one visit, mention it when you book.

Why choose Sydney Gardeners for your lawn mowing

At Sydney Gardeners we believe you shouldn't spend your weekend mowing the lawn. We're committed to giving our clients the pleasure of an effort-free lawn, and we can handle the rest of the garden while we're there: weeding, weed spraying, fertilising, trimming, garden clean-ups and lawn laying.

Tired of looking at overgrown grass, or of someone reminding you about it? Our lawn mowing services are reasonably priced and on time. Call us for a one-off clean-up before an event, or regular hassle-free maintenance.

The lawn mowing services we offer cover all of Sydney, residential and commercial, and we're happy to be flexible with arrangements to suit how you use the property. Our experienced team uses razor-sharp cutting equipment to deliver a clean, healthy mow. It's one of many garden services we provide.

Blunt blades tear grass out instead of cutting it, and that's what browns a lawn off. Sharp equipment isn't a detail. It's the job.

How to keep your lawn in Sydney healthy all year round

With over a decade of mowing lawns in Sydney, our team are well practised at keeping a lawn healthy through every season. Through the summer months growth is fast and needs a cut roughly every two weeks. That tapers off in autumn, and by winter it's every four to six weeks.

During the winter months it's important to only take the top off to neaten the lawn up, without cutting the grass back too far. Keeping it a little longer in winter prevents weeds from coming through and keeps the lawn healthy year round.

Once spring hits and the growing season starts, feeding the lawn becomes important to support that growth. A weed and feed is a great start, and it's worth looking into topsoiling at the same time.

Why you should have your lawn mowed by a professional

We understand how much a tidy lawn matters to a property. Once it's in our hands, that worry is off your list, and we'll let you know when other areas of the property need attention rather than waiting for you to notice. With competitive rates, professional lawn maintenance buys back the time you'd otherwise spend on it.

Having your lawn looked after by a team based in Sydney means we understand the local climate and how your lawn grows through the different seasons. Our mowing services cover the Northern Beaches, upper and lower North Shore, the CBD and many more areas, and we schedule regular visits that adjust with the seasons.

Our lawn mowing services cover all areas of Sydney

Lawn mowing no longer needs to be stressful. We make your lawn care our responsibility and keep it well fertilised and healthy all year round. Our teams are happy to provide a free quote along with advice on the best way to mow and maintain your particular lawn.

We also offer same-day lawn mowing for clients who call before 9am. Often the lawn is the last thing on your mind when you're preparing for an event or having friends over. Advice on keeping a lawn healthy and tidy year round can be hard to find, and our team understands the seasonal changes and their impact on your lawn and garden.

Lawn maintenance services Sydney

Keeping on top of a lawn is something our team specialise in, and maintenance matters as much as the cut itself. Letting lawn quality degrade can be costly and time-consuming to fix. We keep hundreds of Sydney lawns maintained year round. Here are a few of our tricks.

Topsoiling

Topsoiling matters because it replaces the feed a lawn loses when you mow with a catcher. It also helps balance soil quality and improves growth. The best time to topsoil is spring, which gives the lawn a kick start into the growing season.

Weed removal

Mowing is one aspect of lawn maintenance; staying on top of weeds is another. During the colder months in Sydney weeds can grow faster than the lawn, depending on the variety you have. Standard buffalo nearly stops growing in winter and is easily overwhelmed.

To prevent that, keeping the lawn longer through the colder months is a reliable way to stop weeds getting through. If it's already too late, a suitable weed spray before mowing is the better option. It's hard to judge how weedy a lawn is once it's freshly cut. When it hasn't been mowed for a few weeks, the difference in growth rate makes the weeds easy to spot.

Fertilising

A weed and feed at the start of the growing season does more for a lawn than almost anything else you can do in an afternoon. See lawn fertilising services if you'd rather we handled it.

Mowing through the year

How often a Sydney lawn needs cutting

Growth swings hard between seasons here. A schedule that suits January is wrong by June, so we adjust yours as the year moves.

December to February

Summer

Every 1 to 2 weeks

Peak growth. Cut a little higher than you'd think, because length shades the soil and holds moisture through the heat.

March to May

Autumn

Every 2 to 3 weeks

Growth tapers off. Good window for topsoiling and getting leaf litter off the grass before it mats down.

June to August

Winter

Every 4 to 6 weeks

A tidy-up cut only. Leaving it longer stops weeds taking over while the lawn is barely growing.

September to November

Spring

Every 2 weeks, rising

Feed it. A weed-and-feed at the start of the growing season sets up the whole summer, and topsoil helps too.

Know your lawn

Common Sydney grass types and how short to cut them

Cutting height matters more than most people expect. Scalp a buffalo lawn and it browns off for weeks; leave couch too long and it goes spongy underfoot. If you're not sure what you've got, send us a photo and we'll tell you.

Recommended cutting heights for lawns around Sydney. Go higher in summer and in shade, lower in full sun.
Grass Cut to What to know
Buffalo 30 to 50mm The most common lawn in Sydney and the most shade tolerant. Never scalp it. Buffalo recovers slowly and browns badly if cut too low, so we run the mower high on these.
Kikuyu 25 to 40mm The fastest grower of the lot. Needs mowing weekly through summer or it gets away from you, and it will creep into garden beds if the edges aren't kept sharp.
Couch 10 to 25mm Fine leaf, loves full sun, and handles being cut short better than anything else here. Goes off colour through winter, which is normal rather than a problem.
Zoysia 15 to 30mm Slow growing and dense, so it needs mowing less often and chokes out most weeds by itself. Good drought tolerance once established.
Ryegrass and fescue 40 to 60mm Cool season grasses that stay green through winter but struggle in humid Sydney summers. Keep them long to shade their own roots.

The one third rule. Whatever the grass, never remove more than a third of the leaf blade in a single cut. Taking more stresses the plant, exposes the soil and is the fastest way to invite weeds in. If a lawn has got away from you, we bring it down over two visits rather than one.

Getting the most out of the visit

Before we arrive

None of this is compulsory, but it means the crew spends the visit mowing rather than moving things, and it keeps the price where we quoted it.

  1. Unlock the side gate if the back lawn is part of the job. If it stays locked we can usually only do the front.
  2. Pick up after the dog. A mower turns that into a much bigger problem, and the crew will skip those areas if they spot it.
  3. Clear toys, hoses and furniture off the grass. Anything left out gets mowed around rather than moved.
  4. Keep pets inside for the visit. Mowers and blowers are loud, and gates get opened.
  5. Move cars off the nature strip if you want it done.

You don't need to be home. As long as the crew can get to the lawn, we'll mow, tidy up and invoice afterwards.

Worth a look

Signs your lawn needs more than a mow

Mowing keeps a lawn tidy but it won't fix an underlying problem. These are the things we flag when we see them.

Yellow patches that spread

Often lawn grub, which is most active from October through to March in Sydney. It moves fast, so treating early saves replacing turf later.

Spongy underfoot

Thatch buildup between the leaf and the soil. Water and feed stop getting through, and the lawn dries out despite watering.

Scalped humps

An uneven surface means the mower takes the high spots to the dirt every visit. Topdressing levels it out and the brown patches stop coming back.

Bare tracks and hard ground

Compaction from foot traffic or parking. Roots can't get air or water, so grass thins out. Aerating opens it back up.

Weeds outpacing the grass

Common through the colder months when the lawn slows and weeds don't. Length holds them back. A targeted spray fixes it if they're already through.

Moss in the shade

A sign of damp, compacted, acidic soil rather than a grass problem. Usually needs the shade or the drainage addressed, not more mowing.

We'll tell you what we see and what it would cost to sort out. If it's something you'd rather handle yourself, we'll tell you that too. See lawn fertilising, weeding and lawn seeding for the fixes we handle.

For managers and owners

Strata and commercial lawn mowing

Grounds are the first thing a prospective tenant or customer judges you on, and tired lawns are hard to explain at a committee meeting. We hold scheduled contracts across residential blocks, retail sites and office grounds throughout Sydney.

That means a fixed visit schedule, the same crew each time so nobody needs re-briefing, and insurance documentation on file before the first visit. We invoice monthly rather than per visit if that suits your accounts process better.

Questions

Lawn mowing questions, answered

How much does lawn mowing cost in Sydney?
From $55 for a small lawn under 30m², $75 for a medium lawn up to 70m², and $110 for a large lawn up to 120m². Anything larger is quoted on site or from photos. The price is confirmed before we start, and regular customers pay less than one-off bookings.
Can you mow my lawn the same day?
Often yes. If you call before 9am and a crew is already working near you, we can usually fit you in the same day. Otherwise it's normally a day or two. Quotes always go out the same day.
How often should a lawn be mowed in Sydney?
In summer every one to two weeks while growth is at its peak. That tapers through autumn to every two to three weeks, and by winter every four to six weeks is enough. We adjust your schedule as the seasons change rather than mowing to a fixed calendar.
Do you take the grass clippings away?
Yes. We catch and remove clippings as standard, and green waste is separated and recycled rather than sent to landfill. If you'd rather we mulch back into the lawn, just ask. In summer it can help the soil hold moisture.
Do you edge and blow down as well as mow?
Included as standard. We edge along paths and garden beds, then blow the paths and driveway clean before leaving. A mow that leaves clippings across the concrete isn't finished.
Are your lawn mowing crews insured?
Yes. Every gardener is trained on the machinery they operate and covered while on site, so you're not liable for damage or injury during the job. Crews are also police checked and hold a Working With Children Check.
Why should I use a professional rather than mow it myself?
Commercial equipment kept sharp cuts grass cleanly instead of tearing it out, which is what browns a lawn off. A local team also knows how your grass behaves through Sydney's seasons and can adjust the schedule and cutting height to suit, and will flag anything else the property needs while they're there.
Do I need to be home when you mow?
No. As long as the crew can reach the lawn, we'll mow, tidy up and invoice afterwards. If the back lawn is part of the job, just leave the side gate unlocked.
What happens if it rains on my mowing day?
We don't mow a soaking lawn. Wet grass tears instead of cutting, clogs the catcher, and a mower on saturated ground leaves ruts that take months to settle. We'll move you to the next dry slot and you aren't charged for a visit that didn't happen.
How short should my grass be cut?
It depends on the variety. Buffalo wants 30 to 50mm and should never be scalped, kikuyu sits around 25 to 40mm, couch handles 10 to 25mm, and zoysia around 15 to 30mm. Whatever the grass, we never take more than a third of the leaf in one cut. If you're not sure what you have, send a photo and we'll tell you.
