Big blocks are won on schedule, not heroics
The economics of acreage mowing are simple: grass on a schedule is cheap to cut, grass that's gotten away is expensive to recover. A maintained lifestyle block is an hour or two of ride-on work. The same block after a wet spring off the schedule is a slashing job, a follow-up mow, and a bigger invoice — every time.
The right machine for the acreage
We run zero-turn and ride-on mowers for the finish areas — around the house, sheds, pool and entertaining spaces — and a tractor-mounted slasher for paddocks, fence lines and anything past knee height. One crew, both machines, so the block gets done in a single visit instead of two contractors pointing at each other.
Fire season is a mowing deadline
On Sydney's rural fringe, long cured grass isn't untidy — it's fuel. Keeping grass short around dwellings maintains your asset protection zone, keeps council land-management letters out of the mailbox, and is one of the most effective things an acreage owner can do before summer. We book hazard-reduction slashing from late spring; the smart owners book before the grass cures.

From feral to under control, in order
1. Walk the block
Acreage quotes happen on site — we check grass, slopes, gates, dams, stock and septic, and quote the property in writing. Free.
2. Recovery cut if needed
Overgrown blocks get slashed back to manageable height first — the one-off that makes every cut after it cheap.
3. Finish areas mown
Ride-ons handle around the house, sheds and pool — clean lines where you live, working cut where you don't.
4. Edges that matter
Fence lines, driveway edges and dam banks done with the block, not left as a "next time".
5. Onto the schedule
A seasonal contract schedule — 2–4 weeks in the growth, stretched in winter — priced under one-off rates.

How big is an acre, actually?
One acre is 4,047 square metres — roughly nine average Sydney suburban lawns side by side, or about 60% of an NRL field. If mowing your suburban lawn takes half an hour, the same machine on an acre is walking nearly three kilometres of cutting lines. That's why acreage is ride-on and tractor territory.
How much does acreage mowing cost in Sydney?
Acreage work prices by area, grass condition and terrain rather than a flat rate — as a guide, a maintained one-acre lifestyle block runs roughly $180–$300 per cut, around five acres $470–$740, and larger holdings are quoted per property. Overgrown grass that needs slashing first can add 50–100%, and regular contract cuts come in well under one-off recovery jobs. Quotes are free and in writing.
How often should acreage be mown?
Through Sydney's growing season (roughly September to April) most acreage wants cutting every 2–4 weeks to stay ahead of growth; over winter that stretches to 6–8 weeks or pauses entirely. The cheapest acreage to maintain is the one that never gets away — recovery cuts on feral paddocks cost far more than the schedule that prevents them.
What's the difference between mowing and slashing?
Mowing gives a clean, even finish and suits grass up to roughly knee height. Past that, a tractor-mounted slasher does a faster, rougher cut that gets long grass back to a manageable height — then mowing takes over. Overgrown paddocks usually need one slash followed by a regular mowing schedule.
Can slashing reduce fire risk on my property?
Yes — long dry grass is fine fuel, and keeping it short is one of the most effective things an acreage owner can do before fire season. Slashing helps maintain asset protection zones around dwellings and keeps you on the right side of council and RFS expectations for land management. Book hazard-reduction slashing for late spring, before the grass cures off.
Does short grass really mean fewer snakes and ticks?
Short grass doesn't repel snakes, but it removes the cover and prey habitat they prefer, and it dramatically improves your ability to see them — which is what actually keeps people and pets safer. Ticks also thrive in long grass; regular mowing is a standard part of tick management on rural blocks.
What do you do with the clippings on acreage?
On large areas we mulch-mow — clippings are cut fine and returned to the ground, where they break down and feed the soil, which is the practical and healthy approach at acreage scale. Around entertaining areas, pools and paths we can catch and remove clippings for a clean finish.
